Scriptware on the move

Overboslaan

After 13 years in the old recording studios of the Gramophone House, Scriptware moved as of August to a more convenient office. Since 1998 Scriptware gradually grew from a small company into a 15 person strong outfit. The Gramophone House was an ideal office allowing project managers, translators and technical writers to cooperate intensively. In 2006 the web-based CMS provider DocZone.com was established and opened its European headoffice under the same roof. In 2009 DocZone was taken over by US-based Really Strategies. Additionally the financial crisis hit hard for two consecutive years. With less people it was the right timing to find a more fitting office space.

Maria Callas.

The former recording studios in the Gramophone House were a great background for our international business. Photographs with Tina Turner and Sineàd O’Connor visiting the studios are reminiscent of the once musical vibes. Leaving this place felt like a melancholy blues. Fortunately the small business centre (housing 4 other companies) offered a great option as one of the units became available. So end of July we moved to the adjourning Overboslaan 6. It's unique stained glass music-related facade makes this a monument in its’ own right. The fact Maria Callas herself laid the first stone on July 11, 1959 contributes to its former glory. Over the last few months it feels like being 'in key' again.

Please come and visit us any time. We will be pleased to show you around our musical heritage.

Going East !

Konichiwa.

Over the last ten years, Scriptware regularly visited Japan. The presence of many European Head Offices of Japanese companies in The Netherlands initiated these business trips. They produce products that require translated documentation for the European market. The mostly small European organizations need support to be able to offer their subsidiaries and distributors localized material and allow them to operate on European local markets.

Adobe FrameMaker, Trados, Scriptware

In 2002 and 2003 Scriptware organized seminars in Tokyo, involving Trados Japan and Adobe Systems Japan. These successful seminars led many companies to choose for Adobe FrameMaker and the excellent integration with Trados translation software. For many years Scriptware handled the source layout, translation and layout in many European languages. Together with our Japanese partner agency Comsus we lived in the golden age.

Crisis, what crisis?

Well, there is no denying that as of 2009 the world economy was confronted with a deep crisis. Japanese companies stopped new product launches and translation projects were radically cancelled or never saw the day of light. As of beginning this year there are signs of improvement, but the March 11 disaster in Japan also had an enormous effect in the aftermath. In April Japanese export came to another standstill.

May, June 2011

After 3 years of absence, we decided to Go East again. Starting in China, the new economic tiger where the crisis had little or no impact. In Beijing, we visited some new relations, strong partners and were impressed by the speed of the Chinese economy. Onwards to Japan, we felt the magnitude of the disaster. The Japanese are resilient and face forward. They will emerge.

Adobe InDesign, Scriptware

Although FrameMaker is still widely used, new documentation is now often produced in Adobe InDesign. Scriptware embraces this software as it leads to comparably good results for layout re-use. The new Trados version integrates it but also Scriptware’s own translation webshop TransiBar works seamless with InDesign.

All and all, Scriptware has enjoyed almost 10 years of close East-West cooperation. Looking forward to many years to come.

Harigatoh. Nihao!

Media Markt Magazine in Portuguese

On behalf of iMediate, media agency in Hilversum, Scriptware translated Mediazine - the successful Media Markt magazine - in Portuguese.

iMediate publishes the monthly issues of the Mediazine magazine in the Benelux for some time. The success of this sponsored magazine led to the introduction and free distribution in all Portuguese Media Markt shops as of February. The Media Markt Portugal website also informs its' visitors extensively about the wide selection of products. Ranging from washing machines, LED television sets to Blu-Ray players, DVDs, and Nespresso coffeemakers. The well-written (and well-translated) articles turn this into an interesting and appealing magazine.

A group of excellent Portuguese translators handles the consumer-oriented translations. As a tool they use the online TransiBar translation platform. Both Word and InDesign content is directly translated in TransiBar. After finishing the translation the InDesign layout is automatically generated which saves the iMediate DTP crew considerable layout time.

Issue 6. Mediazine July- August

Season Greetings

On behalf of the Scriptware team, Season Greetings and a great and inspiring start of the New Year.

Heerema handles multilingual safety regulations

HFG (Heerema Fabrication Group) is an international player. At its Heerema Zwijndrecht production facility there are quite some nationalities at work. Workfloor Safety Regulations are posted on a regular basis ranging from eye protection gear to the Swine flu. These so-called Toolbox briefings serve the purpose to increase the safety conditions and to decrease the Lost Time Incidents ( LTI).

Starting approximately a year and a half ago both production facilities at Heerema Zwijndrecht and Heerema Vlissingen make use of the TransiBar online translation platform. English announcements are uploaded instantly and translated into five languages. Next they are handed out all over the production facilities and posted at appropriate locations throughout the premises. Marina Florusse at the SHE (Safety/Health/Environment) department coordinates the translation. "TransiBar is an excellent online platform that allows me to handle a translation fast and efficiently", Marina says. "Also our sister company in Vlissingen uses the TransiBar tool".

Next to translating safety regulations TransiBar is also very suitable for contracts, business plans, manuals, brochures, websites, training material etc. As a translation portal it can be used all around the globe. Click transibar.com to have a closer look and request an automatic online quote in less than 30 seconds.

Apple Apps travel the world

The popularity of the Apple iPhone Apps goes beyond saying (173,284 per March 2010). Low cost apps are downloaded on a daily basis in every language. Popular Apps, free or for just a few euro's, sell at tenth of thousands per country. Dutch iPhone App developer Mobilaria recognized that a FM-radio App was missing and developed a hot product called "Tunin.FM Radio". In order to reach a global audience Mobilaria required localized versions of this App.

Scriptware processed translations in 10 languages and various local English, French or Spanish versions (Canada, New Zealand, Mexico, Australia). What is even better, Scriptware processed the .STRINGS format that the iPhone requires. So no conversions, or cut&paste, but direct, no hassle translations in any language. As Mobiliaria CEO Wanjo Temkov says, "we had an immediate need for efficient and fast translations to reach the world, Scriptware managed it all". Tunin.FM Radio is there for the iPhone, but on the newly announced iPad you can also directly play this great App. Tune-in on Mobilaria and Scriptware.
